Temporary SH closure in December

As usual, the Strange Horizons fiction department is temporarily closing to submissions during the month of December this year. If you want us to consider a story before the end of the year, submit it before the end of November.

(This doesn't apply to other departments, just fiction.)

Also as usual, we expect to be completely swamped with submissions in January, and possibly well into February. We probably won't be paying as much attention to each individual submission in January as we normally do, and we'll probably be sending a lot of form rejection letters. Don't take it personally.

Would March be a safe time to submit? *curious*

Well, any time other than December is a fine time to submit. As a longtime procrastinator myself, I hate to give authors a reason to hold off on submitting stories that are ready to submit.

And I don’t know what the submission volume will be like next year, other than that it will almost certainly be very high in January. The trend continues to be toward higher volume over time; any given month might not be higher-volume than the preceding month, but it will almost certainly be higher volume than the same month a year earlier.

So if you’ve got a story you want to send us, I don’t want to recommend that you wait ’til March to send it. On the other hand, I don’t want to recommend that you send it the first week of January, either. Unfortunately, I don’t have any good advice to give on this topic; authors will have to make their own decisions about when to submit.

Sorry not to be more helpful.

Oh my. That’s alright then. I’ll just submit whenever I’m ready to send it out. And yes, I am most definitely a procastinator too!

    Thanks for the input 🙂
