Jed's Interests: Recreation & Hobbies
(Last update (minor): 26 August 2012.)
I'm a dabbler—or, to put it nicely, a dilettante. I don't do serious research, but I'm at least mildly interested in almost everything.
Here are some particular interests at the moment:
- reading, especially science fiction and fantasy
- games of all sorts, but especially roleplaying games
- puns, light verse, and other forms of wordplay
- singing rounds
- situation puzzles
- writing fiction and occasionally poetry
- reading aloud, and listening to
others do so
- juggling
- typography
- user interface design
- linguistics, particularly etymology and phonology
- artificial intelligence
- light physical activity such as bicycling, frisbee, and New Games (though
I'm not terribly athletic)
- theatre tech (though I haven't worked a show in years)
- radio drama and comedy (writing and listening to)
- electronic books and online document viewers
- occasional dabbling in art (though I'm no artist)—doodling and creating occasional computer-generated
textures. (That one was created using Tom Davis' "swirl" program and cglue(6D);
I have others but they're less interesting.)
