Jed's Future Plans

(Last minor change: 17 August, 2003 .)

(I guess a lot of the items on this page aren't so much plans as vague and unlikely hopes.)

I expect to live in the Bay Area long-term. It's the only place I've yet found that has weather I can stand year-round; and it feels like home.

I expect to keep writing software documentation indefinitely. I mostly enjoy the work, and am reasonably good at it, and it pays well.

Then again, something else I'd love to do is create 3D interactive stories. This goal has been on hold for a while; I'm not convinced that 3D on the Web is going to get to where I want it to be anytime in the next few years. Eventually, I hope it gets to the point where someone who's good at writing and roleplaying can contribute as much to a 3D graphics project as a good graphic artist. But I'm not currently working toward this goal.

Another thing I'd love to do is to be able to make a living as a fiction editor. (Which would require actually getting paid for it.) Awfully unlikely to happen anytime in the near future, and I might be hesitant even if the option were offered to me; the difference in pay would make a big dent in the lifestyle to which I've become accustomed. But it's something I occasionally daydream about, at any rate.

Then again, I'd love to own a big house; to be able to afford that in the Bay Area, I'd definitely have to keep my computer-industry job. I would like to have lots of space, providing a haven for traveling friends, but that's fairly unlikely on the Peninsula, given the price of housing.

Other future plans include eventually becoming well-known as a fiction writer and virtual-world designer. Gotta have a hobby. . . .
