The works described here are almost all 'second tier'. If you're hoping to find herein a whole flock of new Beethovens and Mozarts I'm afraid you'll be disappointed. I personally think that the greatest talents do rise, have risen, to view and acclaim. But that only accounts for a small number of the composers played and recorded. The rest are known partly because of their talent and partly, it seems to me, by luck. For there are composers whose music is practically unknown, yet who seem to be just as good at writing music as [Insert your least-favorite well-known composer here]; historical accidents have rendered them obscure. (Of course there are others whom lack of talent has rendered obscure!)
